Expressive arts and design

In foundation stage the children have access to resources that they can manipulate in any way they choose.

Resources:

  • Powder paint

  • Poster paint

  • Open ended resources (cardboard boxes, tubes, bottles, lids, materials)

  • Scissors

  • Glue

  • Tape

  • Pens

  • Pencils

  • Crayons

  • Different sized paper and card

  • Tracing paper

  • Play dough making station

  • Musical instruments and loose parts (pots, pans, tubes, metal)

The new EYFS statutory framework 2021 includes the requirement for children have frequent and repeated experiences to develop and embed new skills. Having the resources in our continuous provision allows all children access them as much as they like. Planning in the moment also allows children to have lots of time to repeat, adapt and change their creations/ideas. The role of the adult in our setting is to support children’s forever growing interest and understanding of the arts, rather than planning one off activities such as hand printing which limits their creativity.
