Peer Mediators

At St Catherine’s we have a group of Peer Mediators in Y5 and Y6, who support children on the yard and model positive, reflective strategies to resolve minor conflicts so that children can begin do this independently. This is led by Maygen Heald from Sheffield Children’s NHS Trust.

Who are the peer mediators?

The peer mediators help resolve arguments that happen on the playground in a peaceful manner. They are trained to promote communication and understanding between pupils who are having disagreements.

Peer mediators carry out their role on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at playtimes and lunchtimes. If you or your friend is having a disagreement with someone else, you could ask the peer mediators to help you.

Make sure to look out for them on the playground, they wear blue bibs and a lanyard with ‘peer mediator’ on it.
