Glossary

We often use unfamiliar words or acronyms in our communication. We've compiled a glossary of terms to make communicating easier.

Base 10 or Numicon

A scaffold to use in Maths. An object that can be held to represent a number.

 

CVC

Consonant, vowel, consonant.

A three letter word made up of a consonant, a vowel and then a consonant. For example: mum, dog, cat.

 

FS

Foundation Stage

F1 refers to children in Nursery.

F2 refers to children in Reception.

 

KS1

Key Stage 1

Children in Year 1 and Year 2.

 

KS2

Key Stage 2

Children in Years 3 to 6.

 

P4C

Philosophy for Children

Class sessions where children think deeply about philosophical questions.

 

PSHE

Personal, Social and Health Education

A topic taught in school.

 

SRE

Sex and Relationship Education

A core-component of PSHE lessons.

 

Reciprocal Reading

A class-based approach to answering high-level reading quesions.

 

RWI

Read Write Inc.

The phonics scheme used at St Catherine's.

 

TA

Teaching Assistant

An adult in class that supports the class teacher.
